The week before moving: prepare key handover, transport and first-night items separately
At the busiest point of a move it is easy to forget keys, meter readings and what you need on the first night. Split document handover, transport arrangements and immediate essentials into three lists, and moving-in day will be easier to keep track of.

Keep the handover information in one place
Gather the key handover times, the persons responsible and contact details for the old and new addresses, and prepare what you need for counting keys, reading meters and taking photos. Keep important documents with you, not in the moving boxes. Check the building's moving hours and lift booking in advance.
Label each box with where it goes
Write the destination room and main contents clearly on the outside of each box, and keep fragile items and items that must be carried upright separate. For large furniture, confirm dimensions and dismantling and assembly arrangements first; for things you no longer need, arrange their handover early so they do not go on taking up space after you move in.
Do not put first-night items at the bottom of a box
Put cleaning supplies, chargers, clothes, toiletries and everyday items in a bag that is easy to reach. After moving in, check the handover condition, basic fittings and keys first, and finish the important records before slowly sorting out storage.
