Label moving boxes by room, contents and opening priority
Give each box a stable identifier, destination room and short contents description. Use the same identifiers in the register for departure and arrival checks.

Agree room names before labelling
Agree destination-room names before labelling. 'Room one' may mean different things to different people; use a shared name such as 'window bedroom' so boxes reach the intended place.
Keep a box's identifier stable when its destination changes. Update the room field instead. Describe contents enough to find them; detailed records of private papers can stay in your own register rather than on the outside label.
Useful fields on a box label
Place the label where it remains visible and add the identifier to the register before sealing.
| Item | Record | Follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Stable identifier | For example K03 | Match to the register |
| Destination room | Agreed room name | Place in the matching room |
| Contents | Short description of key items | Help retrieval |
| Priority or special handling | First-use items and handling notes | Brief the move lead |
Example: a changed room keeps the same box number
K03 was intended for the kitchen but will temporarily go to storage. Keep K03 and change only its destination, avoiding confusion at arrival. Put first-use crockery in a separate box and mark its priority in the register.
Check at sealing and arrival
- Each box has one stable identifier
- Register and labels match
- First-use items can be found separately
