Compare moving quotes with the same inventory and access details

Use one inventory for both package and itemised quotes. Record access at each address, packing and dismantling, then identify exclusions before comparing totals.

Start every quote with one inventory

Give every mover the same dated inventory. A sofa, bed frame and box count should not become a vague 'whole home' description in a competing quote. Similar totals can cover quite different jobs.

Separate departure and arrival details: floors, lifts, vehicle access, carrying route and large-item clearance. Keep the original quote and identify every change in a revised version; a conversation alone does not explain what the total includes.

Make the quoted scope comparable

Mark each item included, extra or unanswered. A blank field is a question to resolve, rather than a zero charge.

Example: moving the same bed can involve different work

One quote says 'one bed'; another specifies dismantling, transport and assembly. Ask both to confirm the same work before comparing them. Listing the mattress and frame separately also removes ambiguity about the item count.

Records to keep before confirming

  • One inventory and both address descriptions
  • Every extra and unanswered item
  • Versions of quote, postponement and damage terms
