Prepare for a mandatory building inspection notice
Identify the property, parts covered and time frame in a mandatory building inspection notice before arranging a registered inspector. Keep inspection, any prescribed repair and the resulting reports as separate stages of the record.

Buildings Department
Prepare for your task
| Task | Information to have ready |
|---|---|
| Notice and property | Retain the notice reference, complete address, relevant unit or common parts and time frame. Supply the notice copy to the person coordinating the response. |
| Registered inspector | Check the appointed registered inspector and agreed scope, distinguishing prescribed inspection from later repair supervision. Retain appointment and contact records. |
| Repair follow-up | If prescribed repair is required, organise its scope, contractor and supervision arrangements with the appointed professional, separately from an ordinary decoration quote. |
| Reports and certificates | Follow up the inspection report, repair-completion report and applicable specified certificate, keeping the professional's copies and submission records. |
Scope and arrangements
- Building and window inspection schemes have different responsible persons and documents. An ordinary viewing checklist does not replace the statutory process.
- Prescribed inspection and the appropriate professional determine the repair question and scope; a photograph or estate name alone is insufficient.
